24-Hour Locksmith in Staten Island? What’s Really Open Late (and What It Costs)

It’s late, you’re standing next to your car, and the keys are on the seat. You type “24 hour locksmith Staten Island” into your phone. Before you call anyone, here is what you should know about how late-night locksmith service really works — including where we fit in.

The Straight Answer: We Are Not 24/7

Staten Key Bros is a licensed mobile locksmith, not a 24-hour operation. We would rather tell you that now than have you wait on a call that isn’t coming. Here are our hours:

  • Sunday through Thursday: 8:00 AM – 11:45 PM
  • Friday: 5:30 PM – 11:45 PM
  • Saturday: 8:00 AM – 11:45 PM

That means we are on the road late every night of the week, and open on Sundays and weekends. If you are locked out at 10 PM on a Saturday, call us. If it is 1 AM, keep reading — there is useful advice below.

Late-Night Calls Cost the Same as Midday

Many locksmiths advertise a low price and then add a night, weekend or holiday premium once they arrive. We don’t. There is no after-hours fee, no weekend fee and no holiday fee. A lockout at 11 PM on a Saturday is priced exactly like one at 2 PM on a Tuesday, and the price we quote on the phone is the price you pay.

For a sense of what to expect, a standard car or house lockout is $85, a spare chip key runs $80–120, and a push-to-start smart key is $180–350 depending on the vehicle. The full breakdown is in our Staten Island locksmith pricing guide.

How to Avoid a Bad Night-Time Locksmith Call

Late-night lockouts are exactly when people overpay, because they are tired, stressed and in a hurry. Before anyone drives out to you:

  • Ask for the total price on the phone, not “starting at.” If the answer is “the technician will assess when he arrives,” keep looking.
  • Ask whether there is a night or weekend surcharge. The answer should be a simple yes or no.
  • Ask if they are licensed in New York City. Locksmiths in NYC are licensed through the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP). A real locksmith will tell you their license number without hesitation.
  • Expect to prove ownership. A professional locksmith will ask for ID or proof that the car or home is yours. That protects you, too.

Locked Out After We Close? Here Is What to Do

  1. If a child or pet is inside the car, call 911 first. Do not wait for a locksmith.
  2. Check whether you can safely wait until morning. If the car is parked somewhere safe and you have a ride home, waiting a few hours is often the cheapest option.
  3. Try your roadside assistance. Many insurance policies, credit cards and car makers include lockout service. It is worth a two-minute phone call before you pay out of pocket.
  4. Look for a spare key. A family member, roommate or neighbor may be able to bring one. This is also a good reason to make a spare key before you need it.
  5. Call us when we open, or before 11:45 PM if you can reach us in time. See our full guide on what to do when you are locked out of your car.

What to Have Ready When You Call

You will get your price and your arrival time faster if you can tell us:

  • The year, make and model of the car
  • Where you are, including the ZIP code or neighborhood
  • Whether you have a standard key, a key fob or a push-to-start smart key
  • Whether you have any working key at all — “all keys lost” is a bigger job than a simple lockout

If you need a replacement key or fob rather than just a door opened, see car key replacement in Staten Island and key fob replacement and programming. We cut and program both at your vehicle.
